Hi Entrepreneurs!

Welcome to our first blog entry. Torchlite is a service that helps small businesses grow through word-of-mouth and referrals. At Torchlite, we are passionate about what we do and can easily help virtually anyone navigate the world of digital marketing.
According to the SBA (Small Business Association) there are approximately 28 million small businesses in the U.S. that account for over 50% of the working population. And, small businesses have generated over 65% of all new jobs since 1995! Small businesses are critical to the U.S. economy and make it unique and special.
So, how can we help these businesses grow and thrive? Certainly, access to resources, including capital and business advisors can be extremely valuable. But, without smart marketing – small businesses can spend a lot of time and money and still fail. Here are five important “Don’ts” for every small business owner:

1. Don’t get into social media if you hate it

There is no point in having a Facebook page or Twitter account if you don’t love interacting with people online. The goal is to build relationships, and as we all know, relationships take time and effort. Since social media is an essential part of digital marketing for franchises, find someone who loves this stuff and can make it work for you.

2. Don’t spend more than $100 on a new logo

There are plenty of talented designers who will help you freshen your look for only $100 or slightly more. We can help you easily find them and they will also help you with materials for your store or online.

3. Don’t pay someone a bunch of money to build your website

Effective digital marketing for franchises requires having a good website. Fortunately nowadays its easy for almost anyone to create a website. You don’t need technical knowledge or any geeky skills.
You can go to one of the many web hosts that offer free “website builders” and build your own website using drag and drop editors or simply choosing one of many offered templates.
Alternatively you can tap into the vast online community of freelance web developers and SEO experts who can build it for you at inexpensive prices.

4. Don’t write a blog if you aren’t reading other people’s stuff

Blogging isn’t a one-way street and your blog will fall on deaf ears if you aren’t encouraging folks to comment, and share. Those customers, potential customers or fellow bloggers are happy to comment on your site if you take time to read their comments and respond.
Try to make a habit of responding to every single comment and engaging everyone in a discussion.

5. Don’t try and be a marketer if you aren’t

Hey, we are all good at different things and possess different skill-sets. If your passion doesn’t include marketing, find someone with experience who is passionate about doing effective and easy digital marketing for franchises. Let them do the work for you, but make sure they are closely in tune with your business and customers.
That’s it for now! Tell us what you think in our comments section. Can’t wait to hear from you!
