Our Torchliters are vetted digital marketing freelancers who power the Torchlite Marketplace. They come from a variety of backgrounds and are experts in all areas of digital marketing – from SEO and copywriting to web design and development. We sit down to ask them a few questions in our ongoing Torchliter Spotlight series. Earlier this year, we got to know graphic designer Jared Stelma and developer Aric Harris.
Today we talk with Lance Padgett, a web design/developer who also meddles with illustration, photography, and video.
What’s your role as a Torchliter and which clients do you work with?
I’m one of Torchlite’s many freelancers. My focus areas are graphic and web design, front-end web development, and SEO. I’ve worked with many of the awesome Torchlite clients like ClusterTruck, Diagnotes, Opflex, MS Companies, Krux, Blocks Rock!, and Kelly Construction.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to get outdoors to run, hike, fish, and hunt. I really like to travel when I’m able. Family is always a priority for me as well, so I take any chance I can to be around them.
Where do you live and what’s your favorite part about your hometown?
I live in the small town of Pendleton, Indiana. I’m enjoying seeing a lot of the new small businesses in town thrive and be successful.
What was the last trip you took?
Last serious trip was a cruise to the Bahamas and Key West. Last small trip was a drive down to Pensacola, Florida for a week with family. Next trip is hopefully a visit to England.
What was the last book you read?
A fiction book called “A Natural History of Dragons.” Look it up. The cover artwork drew me in!
If you could have dinner with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?
Screenwriter, Steven Knight, so I could buy him drinks and then convince him to put me in season 4 of Peaky Blinders.
What’s one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?
For the most part, I’m self-taught with my design, development, and photography experience. I actually studied business at university.
How did you get into freelancing?
I started doing freelance photography during college and eventually needed to create marketing materials and a website. From that, I started learning design and web development, got a lot more exposure as I started my career, and eventually got comfortable enough to freelance.
What’s your typical day like?
I work a full-time job, so I’m there the majority of the day. Luckily I work from home, so I avoid the rush hour. I get my freelance duties done in the evenings and weekend hours.
How do you stay up-to-date on the latest digital marketing trends?
I get a lot of my digital marketing news from Twitter.
What’s your favorite part about working with Torchlite?
Everybody I’ve worked with, Torchliters and clients, have been great. I love the flexibility of working on different projects for different business types. It keeps things fresh!
