We’re excited to announce the addition of three new interns (and a couple returning from last year!) to the Torchlite team this summer. This week we’re getting to know Ashley King with a quick little Q&A:
What are you doing at Torchlite this summer?
Learning from all these amazing people, basking in the infectious enthusiasm that is Torchlite, and realizing my strengths and downfalls. I’m hoping to contribute some of my creative insight, or at least leave someone in the workplace with a smile on a day or two.
What do you like to do when you’re not at Torchlite?
I like to take long walks on the beach; sunbathe on yachts, and swoon in the arms of my Latin lover… But actually, I spend the majority of my time outside. And I decided to make this the summer of not saying no (within reason, and safely, of course), so I have found myself doing things like cliff diving and getting gas station slushies at two in the morning.
Where do you go to school and what are you majoring in?
Good old Indiana University and majoring in Journalism with a specialization in reporting and editing, and a double concentration in Public Relations and Broadcast (that’s a mouth full).
What’s your favorite sports team?
Having a big Italian family from Chicago, we passionately and fervently support the Cubs. Yes, I did cry when they won the World Series.
Where did you grow up?
What was the last restaurant you ate at?
Mesh on Mass! One of my favorite restaurants and my dad generously paid for my lunch.
What was the last book you read?
Rules of Civility by Amor Towles – the main character is a BA female writer in the 1930’s, so it appealed to me.
What was the last item you purchased online?
Shoes, of course.
What is your favorite social media channel and why?
Instagram! I can show the colorful, exciting parts of my life while creating a beautiful aesthetic and showing my personality through visuals. Also, when I’m feeling myself in an outfit, I can show off a little bit.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee runs through my veins.
Cats or dogs?
Both. I love all animals, though my dog Lucky is my best friend.
Do you like to plan ahead, or do you work better under pressure?
A little bit of both. I plan out when I’m going to work under pressure.
What was the last place you traveled to?
Pepsi products or Coke products?
Mac or PC?
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be any why?
My grandmother. She passed away when I was 8, and my memory of her is unfortunately dwindling. Also, everyone says I am just like her. I want to see if that still holds true.
Netflix or Hulu?
Netflix has Shameless but Hulu has The Kardashians, so I’m a little conflicted.
What was the last song or album you listened to?
I have all of Sublime’s songs on shuffle when I drive to work. “Santeria” is my favorite, but I think “Waiting for My Ruca” is hilarious.
Where do you see yourself in three years?
I see myself wearing a fabulous pair of black heels and hearing them clack against the pavement in New York City, on my way to work, coffee with two Splendas in hand, looking like a boss. Or wearing a pink tutu and looking like Carrie Bradshaw. I’d be satisfied with either.
